Oppose the Confirmation of Dawn Johnsen, David Ogden, Thomas Perrelli, and
Elena Kagan -- Letter 1
Update: The Senate has already confirmed Elena Kagan, David Ogden, and Thomas
Perrelli. You can still oppose the confirmation of Dawn Johnsen.
Using the below letter or
the other sample
letters on this issue and
the other
resources related to it, please put a letter in your own words (or use
a sample letter as is), and mail it to your
two U.S.
senators and
President Obama.
There may not be enough time to mail a letter, but after you send your three
e-mails, you might mail a copy to your senators and the President just in
case it arrives on time. Voting regarding the confirmation of these nominees
probably will take place soon. If this request is still here, assume that
there may still be time to at least e-mail. It's much better to send a form
letter than not to send a letter at all.

Dear Senator Klobuchar:
Subject: Please Vote Against the Confirmations of These Four Nominees to
the U.S. Department of Justice
I am writing to ask you to vote "No" on the confirmations of Dawn Johnsen,
David Ogden, Thomas Perrelli, and Elena Kagan to the U.S. Department of justice.
These four nominees stand to reverse the pro-life, pro-family progress made
in recent years.
Dawn Johnsen, President Obama's nominee for Assistant Attorney General for
the Office of the Legal Counsel has radical pro-abortion legal theories that
are far outside mainstream legal thought. Her positions are grounded in achieving
her desired end -- the widespread availability of abortion -- and are not
in a proper understanding of constitutional doctrine. They run contrary to
the government's profound interest in promoting life.
David Ogden, President Obama's nominee to the high-ranking post of Deputy
Attorney General of the United States, when he worked for the ACLU, filed
a brief in the landmark abortion case Planned Parenthood v. Casey that denied
the existence of adverse mental health effects of abortion on women. He has
filed briefs pushing virtually unlimited abortion license. In various cases,
he has opposed parental notification before a minor's abortion. He supports
using tax dollars to abortion providers. Mr. Ogden has also been one of the
nation's most prominent porn defense attorneys, representing not only Playboy
and Penthouse, but also PHE, Inc., the largest distributor of hardcore
pornography in the United States.
Thomas Perrelli, President Obama's nominee for Associate Attorney General
at the Justice Department, defeated Terri Schiavo's family in their desperate
attempt to keep her from being brutally starved and dehydrated to death at
Michael's insistence.
Elena Kagan, President Obama's nominee for Solicitor General, along with
other law school officials, in Rumsfeld v. FAIR (2006), sued to overturn
the Solomon amendment, adopted by Congress, which ensured that law schools
could not use homosexual rights rules to deny U.S. Armed Forces recruiters
access to law school campuses. The court ruled against Ms. Kagan's position
8-0. Also, Ms. Kagan is a strong supporter of the pro-abortion agenda. Despite
the fact that a majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars to fund
abortion providers, she has vigorously opposed the de-funding of taxpayer-funded
clinics that promote abortions.
The position of Solicitor General is a post so powerful that its occupant
is often called the "Tenth Supreme Court justice."
Because the Solicitor General defends the laws of the United States, Ms.
Kagan would be in a position to defend laws that either support or oppose
abortion. Laws like the partial-birth abortion ban and parental notification
will need enthusiastic defense before the Supreme Court in the months to
come. Elena Kagan will not provide the defense needed to protect these laws.
I believe that abortion and euthanasia are crimes against humanity. Not only
are about 4,000 innocent children killed every day in the U.S. alone, but
thousands of women attest to the fact that abortion hurts women. Porn, like
abortion, is anti-women and anti-family. Tax dollars should not be used to
fund abortion or abortion providers. Parental consent requirements reduce
abortions. I am against "same-sex marriage" and special rights for homosexuals.
The above four nominees support extreme policies that the majority of Americans
oppose. The American people deserve appointed officials who do not hold extreme
positions against the dignity of human life from fertilization until natural
death. They deserve nominees who will reflect their values before the Supreme
Court.
Please vote against the confirmations of all four of these nominees.
Thank you for your consideration of my position regarding these important
confirmation votes.
I would appreciate a response to my e-mail.
Sincerely,
[Signature]
