Oppose the Confirmation of Dawn Johnsen to the Department of Justice
Update: The Senate has already confirmed Elena Kagan, David Ogden, and Thomas
Perrelli.
Using the sample letter(s) on this issue and
the other resources related to it, please put a letter
in your own words (or use a sample letter as is), and mail it to your
two U.S.
senators and
President
Obama. There may not be enough time to mail a letter, but after
you send your three e-mails, you might mail a copy to your senators and the
President just in case it arrives on time. Voting regarding the confirmation
of these nominees probably will take place soon. If this request is still
here, assume that there may still be time to at least e-mail. It's much better
to send a form letter than not to send a letter at all.

E-mail Your Two U.S. Senators to Vote Against the Confirmations of These
Four Nominees to the U.S. Department of Justice
Update: The Senate has already confirmed Elena Kagan, David Ogden, and Thomas
Perrelli.
***
Four of President Obama's most objectionable nominees have had confirmation
hearings in the U.S. Senate. These appointees have a legacy of championing
abortion on demand, legalized obscenity, special rights for homosexuals,
and euthanasia. The Senate will vote very soon on these key appointments
-- appointments that will determine U.S. legal policy for years to
come. E-mail your senators immediately, asking them to vote against the
confirmation of the following:
Dawn Johnsen is President Obama's nominee for Assistant Attorney General
for the Office of the Legal Counsel in the Obama administration. Ms. Johnsen
is a longtime abortion advocate and was the Legal Director for NARAL from
1988-1993. As a legal scholar, Ms. Johnsen has promoted radical legal positions
concerning abortion. She has sharply criticized the creation of any legal
rights for unborn children, asserting that this might have a deleterious
effect on her desired end -- a woman's unfettered access to abortion.
David Ogden is President Obama's nominee to the high-ranking post of Deputy
Attorney General of the United States. As a private attorney, Mr. Ogden worked
for the ACLU and filed a brief in the landmark abortion case Planned Parenthood
v. Casey that denied the existence of adverse mental health effects of abortion
on women. He has filed briefs pushing virtually unlimited abortion license.
In various cases, he has opposed parental notification before a minor's abortion.
He supports using tax dollars to abortion providers. Mr. Ogden has also been
one of the nation's most prominent porn defense attorneys, representing not
only Playboy and Penthouse, but also PHE, Inc., the largest distributor of
hardcore pornography in the United States.
Thomas Perrelli is President Obama's nominee for Associate Attorney General
at the Justice Department. Mr. Perrelli won media attention as the attorney
for Michael Schiavo, the Florida man who defeated Terri Schiavo's family
in their desperate attempt to keep her from being brutally starved and dehydrated
to death at Michael's insistence. Terri Schiavo collapsed under mysterious
circumstances and was denied rehabilitation after funds won in a court settlement
were allegedly diverted by Michael Schiavo for other uses.
Elena Kagan is President Obama's nominee for Solicitor General, a post so
powerful its occupant is often called the "Tenth Supreme Court justice."
Although Ms. Kagan is well-credentialed as the dean of Harvard Law School,
she has never argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, but she is most prominently
associated with an 8-0 court ruling against her position in Rumsfeld v. FAIR
(2006). In that case, she and other law school officials sued to overturn
the Solomon amendment, adopted by Congress, that ensured that law schools
could not use homosexual rights rules to deny U.S. Armed Forces recruiters
access to law school campuses.
Ms. Kagan is a strong supporter of the pro-abortion agenda. She has vigorously
opposed the de-funding of taxpayer-funded clinics that promote abortions,
despite the fact that a majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars
to fund abortion providers. Child protection laws such as the partial-birth
abortion ban and parental notification will need a enthusiastic defense before
the Supreme Court in the months to come. Elena Kagan would not provide the
defense needed to protect these laws.
Please contact your two U.S. senators today and request that they vote AGAINST
confirming these nominees. Votes will take place any day now. Please act
now, and forward this alert to your friends.

Senate Confirms Pro-Abortion
Obama Nominee Elena Kagan for Solicitor General
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4932.html
"... The Senate voted 61-31 for Kagan's nomination with a solid group of
pro-life advocates opposing the nomination. The Senate's small cadre of
pro-abortion Republicans joined Senate Democrats in approving her for the
prestigious position. Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the pro-life
women's group Susan B. Anthony List ... 'In the past Kagan has been a strong
supporter of the pro-abortion agenda ... She has vigorously opposed the
de-funding of taxpayer-funded clinics which promote abortions, despite the
fact that a majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars to fund abortion
providers. Can you imagine someone this out of touch with average Americans
enforcing our laws which are designed to help protect women and children?'
... Dannenfelser says her position makes it difficult to trust her to adequately
defend pro-life laws before the Supreme Court, and she would likely zealously
defend any that promote abortion. ..."

the committee signed off on Dawn Johnsen, a former NARAL attorney, who will
become Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Legal Counsel. ...
She is the first of Obama's Justice Department nominees not to receive at

"... The U.S. Senate yesterday confirmed David Ogden as the next deputy attorney
general, ignoring a flood of protest against Ogden's extensive record in

top Justice department jobs who supported abortion and euthanasia. David

community, were confirmed on largely partisan votes. Senators approved Ogden's
nomination to become Deputy Attorney General on a 65-28 vote that saw some
Republicans join Democrats to approve him. ... The Senate approved his nomination
to be Associate Attorney General on a 72-20 vote with moderate and liberal

pro-life Republicans opposing him. ..."

the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Friday urging it to reject President
Obama's most recent nominees for top-level positions in the U.S. Department

"... The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of David Ogden
for Deputy Attorney General. ... The Senate has not yet scheduled a vote
on the Ogden nomination, but that could come within a matter of days. When
it does vote, Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council, told

extreme liberal agenda,' Perkins said. 'Ogden's record makes him unfit to
serve in the Justice Department.' ..."
Senate Judiciary Committee
Hears Pro-Abortion Obama Justice Pick David Ogden
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4819b.html
"... Ogden wrote and filed an amicus brief on behalf of the American
Psychological Association for the Supreme Court's seminal decision in Casey
v. Planned Parenthood. In it, Ogden argued, 'Abortion rarely causes or
exacerbates psychological or emotional problems. When women do experience
regret, depression, or guilt, such feelings are mild and diminish rapidly
without adversely affecting general functioning.' Ogden has gone further
by arguing against parental notification and saying, because 'there is no

Nominee: Childbirth Worse Than Abortion

such feelings are mild and diminish rapidly without adversely affecting general

after abortion appear to be those with preexisting emotional problems. In
sum, it is grossly misleading to tell a woman that abortion imposes possible

Barack Obama Finalizes
Appointment of Pro-Abortion Lawyer as Legal Counsel
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4701.html
"... Johnsen is a professor at the Indiana University School of Law, but
she is also a longtime abortion advocate and worked for one of the leading
abortion advocacy groups. Johnsen was the Legal Director for NARAL from
1988-1993. Wendy Wright, the head of Concerned Women for America, told
LifeNews.com that Obama's selection reveals a lot about his pro-abortion
views and that Johnsen should be disqualified because of her work with a
leading abortion advocacy group. 'NARAL's obsession with abortion skews its
legal positions, blinding it to the Constitution's equal protection for all
human beings,' she said. 'The fact that Ms. Johnsen worked for NARAL is a
huge black mark against her judgment and exposes her bias. Americans will
not be able to trust that Department of Justice's legal opinions or Obama's
executive orders comply with the Constitution when the lead person for making
that judgment is incapable of treating all human beings with respect, she
added. ..."
