It's much better to send a form letter than not to send a letter at all.

Dear Senator Klobuchar:

Subject: Please Oppose the Prevention First Act (S. 21/H.R. 463)

A CDC study indicating an increase in our nation's teen pregnancy rate is cited in the reasoning behind initiating the Prevention First Act. However, even though its proponents claim that the act will decrease the spread of STDs, increased access to contraception will increase the spread of STDs. Contraceptive aids will lead to more promiscuity among our teens, which in turn, will lead to more sexually transmitted diseases, despite education about, access to, and use of contraceptives. Our children must be educated regarded chastity -- not medicated or taught that contraception is a good thing!

This proposed legislation reduces parental involvement and promotes anti-Christian principals among the youth. Promoting and distributing contraception to teens tells them that sex outside of marriage is acceptable. You have no right to send our teens that message and to make it more difficult for Christian parents to raise their children with good values.

An increase in funding of the National Family Planning Program comes from my tax dollars, and I oppose any increase to this program. Are you willing to provide the same funding to pro-life programs?

Nor do I want my tax dollars to incorporate contraception-family-planning services into Medicaid.

What this act calls improving awareness of emergency contraception amounts to promoting the murder of unborn babies.

Mandating that facilities provide emergency contraception to rape victims is misguided compassion, and it's unethical. I believe that a rape victim who has not already conceived as a result of a rape has the right to prevent fertilization that might result from the rape. But, since the Plan B pill can cause an abortion if a woman has already conceived, the Plan B pill should be made available to a rape victim only if appropriate medical tests have determined that fertilization has not already take place, even in her fallopian tube. Why? Because a person is a person, no matter how small, and it's wrong to kill a human being. It's more compassionate not to allow a woman to kill her baby than it is to allow her to do so, no matter what the circumstances. True compassionate assistance to a woman who has conceived as a result of a rape involves counseling, health care, and other services; abortion is not a moral or healthy option.

Teen pregnancies can be reduced by educating our youth about chastity, promoting family involvement, and providing families with counseling and alternatives to abortion. There are many childless couples who would be wonderful, nurturing parents if given the chance; many would be willing to pay all of the medical and psychological expenses of a young pregnant woman who is going to offer her baby to them for adoption.

I agree that federal programs should be required to provide medically accurate and thorough information. But they should do that without providing -- let alone promoting -- contraception and abortion.

The research that claims that the majority of the public believes that improving access to family planning is effective in reducing unintended pregnancies is matched by research that indicates that chastity education and family involvement are more likely to achieve that goal, thus reducing the desire for abortions.

Please, do not support a culture of death. This is a great nation, but if we kill our children or prevent them from even being conceived, we destroy our future, and the United States cannot remain great.

I urge you to seriously consider the plea of the millions of American citizens who believe, as I do, that the "Prevention First Act" is not a solution; it would be part of the problem.

Thank you for your consideration of my position on this important issue.

I would appreciate a response to my letter.

God bless you.

Sincerely,
