Dear Representative Ellison:

Subject: Please Oppose the Prevention First Act (S. 21/H.R. 463)

I urge you to radically rework or vote against S. 21, the Prevention First Act.

I am opposed to forcing insurers to cover prescription contraceptive drugs or devices and outpatient contraceptive services (715.a).

Also, the assertion that "emergency contraception does not cause abortion" is not always true. Sometimes it prevents a fertilized egg, a zygote, from implanting. Sometime it destroys a zygote. In either of these cases, a human life is ended. It's an abortion, and that is always wrong.

Finally, if you care about women, flatly calling emergency contraception "safe" is an overstatement. The drug's own documentation warns that it may cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, lower abdominal pain, tenderness in breasts ... that is not my idea of safety. And a woman is hurt psychologically and spiritually when she has to live the rest of her life with the knowledge that she may have killed her child.

Thank you for your consideration of my position on this important issue.

I would appreciate a response to my letter.

Sincerely,
