Letter Asking U.S. House Representatives to Sign the Jordan/Shuler Letter
to Nancy Pelosi and Two Committee Chairpersons
The deadline for sending this particular letter to your U.S. House representative
has passed. On, February 25, 2009, the Jordan/Shuler letter was sent to Speaker
of the House Nancy Pelosi and two committee chairpersons and released to
the public. The letter had 180 Congressional signers -- 157 Republicans and
23 Democrats.
However, you can use the below letter or
the other sample
letters on this issue and
the other resources
related to it, please put a letter in your own words (or use a sample letter
as is), and mail it to your
federal House
representative, your
two federal
senators, and
President Obama.
It's much better to send a form letter than not to send a letter at all.

Dear Representative Ellison:
Subject: Please Sign the Jordan/Shuler Letter
As a constituent who lives in your district, I am writing to ask you to sign
onto the Jordan/Shuler letter addressed to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and two committee
chairpersons asking them to keep the current, longstanding pro-life policies
in place in federal appropriations bills. The reported deadline for signing
this letter has been extended to Friday, February 20.
I oppose the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and any similar measure -- including
those efforts to implement FOCA one step at a time through the Congressional
appropriations process. I encourage you to support provisions such as those
that protect taxpayers from being compelled to pay for abortions and the
destruction of human embryos, protect the consciences of healthcare
professionals, and prevent the U.S. funding of organizations that support
coercive abortions or involuntary sterilization overseas.
The Jordan/Shuler letter is an important statement about the priority that
these and other pro-life provisions should have in the debate over future
appropriations bills.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I would appreciate a response to my letter.
Sincerely,
[Signature]
