Support the Pro-life Provisions in Spending Bills (Oppose Taxpayer Funding
of Abortion)
One of the new Congress's first orders of business will be to approve
appropriations bills to keep federal programs funded through September 2009,
since the current legislation will expire in early March. It's important
that these bills not weaken or rescind longstanding provisions that protect
U.S. taxpayers from being forced to fund and promote the destruction of innocent
human life. Pro-life members of Congress are seeking support for the annual
provisions that respect life, such as the following:
-
The Hyde amendment to the Labor/HHS appropriations bill and parallel provisions
in other appropriations bills (regarding military hospitals, the District
of Columbia, federal employees' health benefits, foreign assistance, and
so on) protect taxpayers from being compelled to subsidize and promote abortion
in domestic and international programs;
-
Since 1996, the Dickey/Wicker amendment to the Labor/HHS appropriations bill
has prevented federal funding for research in which human embryos are created,
harmed, and destroyed;
-
Since 2004, the Hyde/Weldon conscience protection amendment has prevented
federal agencies and state and local governments from discriminating against
individual or institutional health care providers that receive federal funds
and that do not participate in abortion;
-
Beginning in 1985, the Kemp-Kasten amendment to the State/Foreign Operations
appropriations bill has prevented U.S. funding of organizations that support
or help manage programs of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.
Strongly urge your legislators to retain these essential provisions
in law as they complete the appropriations process for fiscal year 2009
Support the Pro-life Provisions in Spending Bills (Oppose the Bailout
for Planned Parenthood)
Abortion groups have submitted their fifty-page proposal to the Obama-Biden
transition team. At the top of the list? More taxpayer dollars for abortion
organizations like Planned Parenthood. How much more? Over 1.5 billion dollars
more!
The Abortion Bailout Package:
-
$1 BILLION dollars in taxpayer funding for international abortion groups;
-
$700 million in taxpayer funding for "Title X" health clinics (a.k.a. your
local Planned Parenthood affiliate);
-
$65 million for the UNFPA, an international aid organization connected to
coercive abortion as part of China's coercive one-child policy;
-
Repeal the Hyde Amendment -- vastly expanding federal taxpayer funding for
abortions;
-
Include abortion coverage in any taxpayer-subsidized national health care
program;
-
Expand taxpayer-funded abortions on military bases;
-
Expand taxpayer-funded abortions through the Peace Corps program;
-
Expand taxpayer-funded abortions for federal prisoners.
Send a letter to your legislators today demanding that they keep your tax
dollars out of the pockets of abortion providers.

Pro-Life Congressmen Seek
Support for Limiting Tax Funding of Abortion
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4800.html
"Two pro-life members of Congress are seeking support for the annual provisions
that are attached to Congressional spending bills that prevent taxpayer funding
of abortions. ... dozens of pro-life lawmakers are expected to sign their
names to ... to keep these provisions. The Hyde Amendment is the most well-known
of the provisions. ... the Hyde Amendment is responsible for a reduction
in the number of abortions by as much as 18-38 percent. Other provisions
include limiting taxpayer funded abortions in the District of Columbia, federal
employee health plans, on military base hospitals, and measures limiting
research on human embryos and providing conscience clauses for medical
professionals. 'As Congress begins its annual appropriations process, important
pro-life provisions that have long been included in appropriations bills
may be in jeopardy ... We believe that failure to include all of the current
policies with regard to the right to life will mark a radical departure from
a policy many Americans support.' The letter is addressed to Speaker Pelosi,
Appropriations Chair David Obey, and Rules Committee Chair Louise Slaughter
-- all pro-abortion lawmakers. ..."
Obama Tells Democrats to
Drop Planned Parenthood Stimulus Funds After Outrage
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4789.html
"After a national pro-life outcry following news that Congressional Democrats
placed a bailout for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the economic
stimulus bill, President Barack Obama has urged party leaders to remove it.
... Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner complained
bitterly about the plan sending as much as $200 million to Planned Parenthood.
... Over the weekend, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended the provision and
appeared to indicate she thought children were a burden to the economy. 'Well,
the family-planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost,' she said on
ABC. That drew guffaws from groups throughout the pro-life movement. ..."

http://www.lifenews.com/nat4787.html
"... House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is coming under heavy criticism today from
those who say she implied children hurt the economy. ... Catholic League
president Bill Donohue responded ... 'Looks like the Democrats have abortion

overseas ... Now we have Pelosi arguing that the way to balance the budget
is not by cutting expenditures, but by cutting kids' ..."
