Dear Senator Klobuchar:
Subject: Please Support the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act, H.R. 649, and
the Informed Choice Act (aid for ultrasound machines), H.R. 195.
When an expectant mother sees an image of her baby in her womb, it's difficult
for her to deny the truth: what is growing within her is a living, breathing
baby. According to statistical research, a woman is 80% more likely to change
her mind and decide not to get an abortion if she has information that encourages
her to reflect on the procedure ahead of time. Therefore, it makes sense
to make it as easy as possible for any woman considering an abortion to see
an ultrasound picture of the little one who depends on her for continued
life.
Abortion is a crime against humanity. Ultrasound is one of the most effective
ways to inform a woman about the personhood of her child. Woman and pre-born
women deserve all the information that these bills would make possible --
in equipment, in ultrasound images, and in the other helpful information
that health care entities would be required to provide, including an a general
anatomical and physiological description of the characteristics of the fetus
and information about alternatives to abortion and the agencies that would
assist in those alternative.
Passage of these bills would definitely reduce abortions. It would save tens
of thousands of lives every year.
Thank you for your consideration of my position on this important issue.
I would appreciate a response to my letter.
Sincerely,

Support
Ultrasound Informed Consent Act (Bill H.R. 649):
To ensure that women seeking an abortion receive an ultrasound and the
opportunity to review the ultrasound before giving informed consent to receive
an abortion.
The Ultrasound Informed Consent Act, sponsored by Representative Jim Jordan
(R-OH 4th) and introduced on January 22, 2009, would require that before
performing an abortion, an abortionist must perform an ultrasound and must
display the ultrasound images so that the woman seeking the abortion has
an opportunity to view them. National Right to Life supports this bill.

Support
Informed Choice Act (H.R.195):
To authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to make grants to
nonprofit tax-exempt organizations for the purchase of ultrasound equipment
to provide free examinations to pregnant women needing such services, and
for other purposes.
The Informed Choice Act, sponsored by pro-life Representative Cliff Stearns
(R-FL) and introduced January 6, 2009, allows the Secretary of Health and
Human Services to make grants to certain nonprofit tax-exempt community-based
pregnancy-help medical clinics for the purchase of ultrasound equipment,
in order to provide free ultrasound examinations to pregnant women. The bill
requires each grant recipient to provide to each woman receiving services
a visual image of the unborn child from the ultrasound examination and a
general anatomical and physiological description of the characteristics of
the fetus. It also requires the grant recipient to provide information on
abortion and alternatives to abortion such as childbirth and adoption, and
information concerning public and private agencies that will assist in those
alternatives. The bill limits each grant to a maximum amount of 50 percent
of the purchase-price cost of the ultrasound machine involved, or $20,000,
whichever is less. National Right to Life supports this bill.

Sam Brownback Introduces
Abortion-Ultrasound Bill in the Senate
http://www.lifenews.com/nat3344.html
Article regarding an earlier introduction of the bill. "... The hope is that
it will persuade many women to keep their baby. ... Pregnancy centers routinely
show women ultrasound photos and a high percentage of women decide against
having an abortion. 'It is necessary and right to provide a woman seeking
an abortion with all the available information so that she may make the most
informed decision possible,' Brownback told LifeNews.com. Brownback said
the requirements of the legislation are placed solely on the abortion
practitioner and not the pregnant mother. A woman seeking an abortion may
refuse to view the images of the ultrasound after the results are made available
to her ..."
