"Is This What You Mean?" Project

This project aims to educate the public about the nature of abortion and to challenge public officials and candidates who support the legality of abortion to admit what it is.

In the dismemberment D&E ... it is necessary to insert our forceps ... and then crush the head.

Testimony of Dr. Carolyn Westhoff, National Abortion Federation v. Ashcroft, April 2004, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York

Add Your Name on This Form So It Can Be Presented to Congress

Ask those who represent you in Washington: Is This What You Mean?
http://www.priestsforlife.org/askwashington/index.aspx
Fill out this brief form so that Priests for Life can bring your name with them to Congress and say to each member of Congress that there are thousands of people in their state and district who are asking the same question and want an answer. Priests for Life sends its pastoral team into the halls of Congress to visit representatives and senators and challenge them to admit what abortion is. Priests for Life goes into the offices of elected officials with the quotes from abortionists and the diagrams of the procedure and simply asks, "When you say the word abortion is this what you mean?" (Note: this a current page. While Priests for Life has submitted names to Congress already, they continue to collect names for future use.)    Back to menu

Listen to Audio Describing This Project

  • MP3 Audio of the Whole Teleseminar
Listen to or download the June 25, 2008, teleseminar, which introduced this project (To hear the teleseminar, be sure to click on the Play (Replay) button after Fr. Frank's brief welcome.)
    http://www.instantteleseminar.com/Default.asp?eventid=3265320
In this audio recording, they start talking about the "Is This What You Mean?" project 19 minutes and 28 seconds in. Then almost all of the rest of the recording is about the project. You can't fast-forward while listening online, but if you download the MP3, then in Windows Media Player (and probably other players, too), you can scroll forward the 19 and a half minutes, if you want to.

  • Download MP3 audio of just the portion of the teleseminar about this project

Abortion -- This is a Suction Abortion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBOAPleF1t0
In the first three months of pregnancy, the commonly used method is called the Suction-Curettage Abortion. A hollow plastic tube, connected to a vacuum pump, is inserted into the uterus, moved around the child, and the force of the suction either breaks the baby's body apart and sucks it through the tube, or if the baby is small enough, the baby goes through the tube intact.

Abortion -This is a Dismemberment Abortion

The most common method used in the second trimester is called a Dilatation and Evacuation. Forceps are introduced into the uterus and used to grab the extremities of the child and to pull them off, piece by piece. Then the head is crushed and the contents of the head come out as well.

Abortion - This is a Prostaglandin Abortion (It may not work in AOL or IE6 browsers. It does work in Firefox, Google Chrome, and Netscape 8. Note: in order to see this video, you have to sign in or sign up because you have to verify that you're age 18 or older. Sign up is easy and free.)

Another method used in the second trimester of pregnancy is induction of labor, and one of those methods is called Prostaglandin Abortion. Prostaglandin, a drug/hormone, is used to induce labor, and the baby is killed by the strength of the contractions as the baby comes down the birth canal.

Abortion - This is a Dilation and Extraction Abortion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyKc6nPw6C4
The "partial birth abortion," which is banned in the U.S., is just one kind of dilation-and-extraction abortion, but not every version of the dilation-and-extraction abortion is illegal in the U.S. This method uses the birth process itself as the method of killing. The baby is brought most of the way out alive as if being delivered, and before the delivery is completed, the baby is killed.
