How Many to Sign

Please sign all of the below pro-life petitions, and ask others to sign them, too. They're distinct, current, and important. Please send people to each of the petitions or simply send them to this site -- CatholicAnew.com -- whose every page clearly links to this page. Consider writing your congressman and senators after you sign the petitions.

Often, several Internet sites house or link to the same petition or slightly different petitions for the same specific cause. Generally, it's not recommended that people sign more than one petition for the same specific cause, but if you're not sure whether you signed a petition for a given cause, go ahead and sign, because sister agencies usually check for duplicates when they pool their signatures.

1) Fight-FOCA Petition
http://www.fightfoca.com/
FightFoca.com was set up just to stop a terrible piece of legislation called "The Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA). FOCA would establish the right to abortion as a fundamental right (like the right to free speech) and wipe away every restriction on abortion nationwide. It would eradicate state and federal abortion laws that the majority of Americans support and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future. You can read the expert analysis by Americans United for Life (AUL). This petition will be sent to key members of Congress. (Please also sign the below Prevention-First-Act Petition, because that bill is already in Congress, and the bill's passage would pave the way for FOCA.)

The chief sponsors and advocacy groups backing FOCA have acknowledged that it would make partial-birth abortion legal again, nullify state parental notification laws, and require the state and federal governments to fund abortions.

To see a video demonstrating partial-birth abortion, please go to the following:

An analysis of FOCA is linked from the FightFOCA.com home page. You can find more regarding FOCA there, too, and here at CatholicAnew.    Back to menu

2) Prevention-First-Act Petition (Combination Petition)
http://stopp.org/agenda/prevention.php
It's important to sign this petition in addition to the above Fight-FOCA one. This petition is to stop three things: FOCA, the Prevention First Act (PFA), and the Planned Parenthood's pro-abortion agenda. This petition is the main Stop-PFA petition, and the above petition above is the main Fight-FOCA petition. While the threat of both bills is great and imminent, the need to oppose the Prevention First Act is particularly urgent, because the bill has already been introduced in Congress, and the bill's passage would pave the way for FOCA. More information and sample letters about PFA.  Back to menu

3) U.N. Petition: International Call for the Rights and Dignity of the Human Person and the Family
http://www.c-fam.org/publications/id.95/default.asp
C-Fam is extending this petition drive. Over 330,000 signatures were presented to the United Nations on December 10, 2008. That drive was so successful and those involved received such encouragement that they want to see if they can get a total of one million signatures to present to the U.N.

To see an article about how the pre-December 10, pro-life petition was doing much better than the Marie Stopes pro-abortion petition, go to the following:

4) Petition to Block Taxpayer Funding of U. N. Abortionists
http://www.pop.org/petitions/2008dontfundUNFPA/
It is anticipated that President Barack Obama will overturn the previous administration's restrictions on U.S. funding to the U.N. Population fund. Funding was restricted because of the UNFPA support of promoting abortions worldwide, including the one-child policy and forced abortions in China. The Population Research Institute is housing this petition, which will be sent to senators and representatives.    Back to menu

5) Stand-for-the-Unborn Petition
http://www.grassfire.org/index.htm
Grassfire, a grassroots voice in Washington, seeks to bring about a change in thinking among our elected lawmakers and, ultimately, an end to abortion through legislation and the courts. This "Petition For Life" focuses on a number of key pro-life initiatives that they are pressing house and senate leadership on.
To access the petition, do the following:

  1. Click on the above link;
  2. At the top of the left column, click on the TopGrassfirePetitions button;
  3. Under Stand for the Unborn, click on the Take Action! link;
  4. You may want to uncheck the box next to Allow partner organizations to contact me via email (this box is near the bottom of the page and just above the Submit Petition button).    Back to menu

6) Petition to Protect Pro-life Doctors
http://www.beheardproject.com/
"... If President Obama makes this damaging move, if he reverses the Conscience Clause, pro-life doctors and nurses will be forced into performing abortion procedures, despite their individual beliefs." The deadline for contacting the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which has opened up a 30-day comment period, is April 9, 2009. But until a final decision is made, please don't think that it's necessarily too late to contact Congress and the President after that date.

On the BeHeardProject.com homepage, see a couple of short videos promoting this petition.

Be sure to also see the CatholicAnew sample letters for contacting HHS, your Congress members, and President Obama regarding this issue:
