Abortion Hurts Those in the Abortion Industry, Too
Dr. Philip G. Ney, founder of the Society of Centurions International, has
has developed a one-week, intensive healing program for former abortion workers.
The program is experiential and instructive. Dr. Ney has also
written a book The Centurion's Pathway: A Description of the Difficult
Transition for Ex-Abortion Providers or Facilitators. The society hopes
to have a seminar for Centurions, in Europe in the fall, probably October
2009.

The Centurion's Pathway: A Description of the Difficult Transition
for Ex-Abortion Providers or Facilitators
What leads someone who has been trained to heal and cure to begin using his/her
skills to kill babies by abortion? How does such a person come to leave the
abortion industry? What does all this have to do with the powerful concept
of the "scapegoat"? Find the answers to these and other questions in this
book by Philip G. Ney, MD, FRCP(C), MA, Rpsych, and Marie A. Peeters, MD.
The book is vailable from Pioneer Publishing via

"They are former providers of abortion who have abandoned that practice and
now embrace the sanctity of life. Their number includes physicians, nurses,
paramedical personnel, technicians, receptionists, and security personnel."
The focus is their own personal healing.

"The main effort, however, will be to support those who have had difficulty
accepting and dealing with their past roles. 'One thing that needs to be
understood,' Appleton said, 'is that those of us who were in the business
of killing babies had to dehumanize them. So the healing process consists
of rehumanization.' ... Among other high-level former abortion providers
who have joined the pro-life movement are Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Carol Everett,
and Norma McCorvey, who was 'Jane Roe' in the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme
Court decision."

"Dr. Ney says this is all a part of restoring people's humanity. 'If you
dehumanize others, you dehumanize yourself,' he says. 'If you stop your ears
to the silent pleading of a little life, then you become insensitive to the
prompting of your own heart and mind.'"

"One problem Appleton found was finding a priest who took her sins as seriously
as she did. ... Appleton says that 'nine out of ten times, when someone decides
to get out of the abortion industry, the first person he will go to is a
member of the clergy. That member of the clergy can make or break that person
at that particular time. Whether these people go on with the process of
reconciliation, whether they succeed in their transition, is greatly dependent
on that first encounter with the clergyman. So it is vitally important that
the clergy understand what they are dealing with.'"

"... there is a journey of healing that a former abortion worker must go
through before he or she is ready to begin any kind of activism. ... The
people in the pro-life movement often have no understanding whatsoever about
what this transition means, and what we go through. ... What most people
in the pro-life movement do not understand is that our value system is based
on a certain set of beliefs, and when you come to the realization that absolutely
everything you believed in is wrong, you are totally lost. ... So the Centurion
program set out to educate the pro-life movement, to help them gain an
understanding of the people who have worked in the abortion industry."

"... there are three things that can happen to you when you are in the abortion
business. First, you can realize the horror that you are involved in, and
you get out. Second, you can realize the horror that you are involved in,
but you do not have the courage to get out, so you get a little mentally
ill. ... Third, ... you take it a step further, and you begin worshipping
the horror, and then 'the choice' becomes your god. This is a real diabolical
side of it ..."

"'The Prodigal Project' is the outreach program to those still in the abortion
industry. It alerts them to the fact that the Society of Centurions exists
... we shouldn't expect those who leave the abortion industry to immediately
get up and start telling complete strangers about their experiences. To relive
the guilt and shame in front of strangers, before healing from the experience
(and the abuse that often leads workers into the abortion industry) just
rubs salt into the wounds. Give abortion industry refugees time and space
to heal."

Ney told Father Pavone, ... 'I think it is possible now to describe what
happens both going in to the abortion industry and coming out of it. So what
we have tried to do is provide people with a model that helps them understand
why they got there and how best to get out of it if they want to get out
of it.' Dr. Ney has written a book, The Centurion's Pathway, describing
the journey from abortion participation to healing. He explains how the wounds
of having been a victim of abuse often pave the way for a person to abuse
others by practicing abortion."
