How to Create a Shortcut to Windows Explorer

To create a shortcut to Windows Explorer, do the following:

  1. Right-click on your desktop;

  2. Go to New

  3. In the Create Shortcut dialogue box, type in C:\windows\explorer.exe

  4. Click on the Next button

  5. In the Select a Title for the Program dialogue box, in the Type a name for this shortcut slot, type in Windows Explorer

  6. Click on the Finish button

  7. To change the icon to the classic Windows Explorer shortcut icon, do the following:

  8. Right-click on the new shortcut on the desktop;

  9. In the pop-up menu that appears, click on Properties

  10. In the Windows Explorer Properties dialogue box, Under the Shortcut tab, click on the Change Icon button

  11. In the Change Icon dialogue box, Click on the icon of the yellow folder with the magnifying glass over it

  12. Click on the OK button

  13. In the Windows Explorer Properties dialogue box, under the Shortcut tab, click on the Apply button

  14. Click on the OK (or Close) button
