Install the Nero Help Files
Preliminary Installation Instructions
Please carefully read all of the installation instructions on this page before
you perform any steps.
Before installing Nero, you might find it helpful to print this page. (If
you're installing from the Nero 7.10.1.0 Ultra Edition executable from me,
you can print, instead, the text document that comes with that executable.
That text document contains essentially the same information as does this
page.)
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or problems.
Install Nero
To install Nero, do the following:
-
If you already have any version of Nero on your computer, completely uninstall
it before reinstalling Nero. (However, if you have a full version of Nero
that successfully burns all the discs that you want to burn, then it's fine
to keep that program instead of installing another.)
-
In Windows, navigate to the program file that you downloaded. (If you're
installing the Nero 7.10.1.0 Ultra Edition executable from me, click on
Nero-7.10.1.0_eng_full.exe).
-
Be patient while the installation wizard is extracted.
-
At the Nero Ask Toolbar window, select Install Nero without the Ask
Toolbar.
-
If there's still a checkmark in the box Make Ask my default browser
search, uncheck that box.
-
IMPORTANT: when the installation process brings you to a page that asks you
if you want Nero to be the default program or player to open the file types
listed, do the following two things. Nero is well worth having, but if
you don't uncheck the boxes below during the installation process, you'll
find (after the installation) that flaming, orange or red Nero icons will
replace the file-type icons for many files types that you have on your
computer:
-
Uncheck all the checkmarks under each of the three or four tabs
Photos, Video, and Music (and Previews if there
is a Previews tab). Be sure to click on each of those tabs to see
the checkmarked boxes under each. There may be a button to uncheck at once
all of the checkmarks under a given tab.
-
You can leave the checkmarks under the Options tab.
-
Click Next, and continue though the installation wizard's steps, one
by one.
-
If you get a message that you need to first uninstall an earlier version
of Nero, close out of the installation, and remove your old Nero via Add
or Remove Programs. If Nero doesn't install properly after that, you
might want to uninstall again and then run a Nero clean tool, which you can
download from the following page:
http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-cleantools.html
-
During the installation process, use the serial number that came with your
purchase of Nero. (If you're installing the Nero 7.10.1.0 Ultra Edition
executable from me, when the installation process brings you to a page that
shows a serial number, delete that serial number, and enter the serial number
that came with your purchase of Nero. The old serial number has been deactivated
and will not work.)
-
Proceed through all the installation wizard's steps, and when you get to
the last one, click on the Finish button.
-
After you click on the Finish button, restart your computer to completely
install all components.
Install the Nero Help Files
After you install Nero and reboot, install the Nero help files so that, when
you click on help (the question mark icon) in an area of Nero, you can see
the help content for that area. (After installing the help files, to see
the help topics in some areas, click on Help Topics after you click
on the question mark.) To install the Nero help files, do the following:
Do one of the following:
-
If you downloaded the Nero 7.10.1.0 Ultra Edition executable from me, do
the following:
-
Click on the folder that contains that Nero executable (to open the folder);
-
Click on the folder Help Files for Nero 7 (to open the folder);
-
Click on the file Nero7_chm_Enu.exe.
-
Click on the Run button.
-
In the Confirm file replace dialogue box, when you're asked, ...Would
you like to replace the existing file...?, click on the Yes to All
button.
-
Or, if you want to download the help files from Nero.com, do the following:
-
Go to
http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads.html
-
Under Help Files, click on the help files for your version.
-
At the next page, click on All in one download package;
-
In the File Download - Security Warning dialogue box, where you see
Do you want to run or save this file?, click on the Save button.
-
In the Save As dialogue box, navigate to the folder to which you
downloaded Nero;
-
Click on your Nero folder to open it;
-
Click on the Create New Folder Icon;
-
Name your new folder something like Help Files for Nero;
-
Click on your new folder to open it.
-
In the File name slot, leave the default file name;
-
Click on the Save button.
-
Navigate to the folder to which you downloaded the help files, and click
on that folder;
-
Click on the executable (.exe) file in that folder;
-
Click on the Run button;
-
In the Confirm file replace dialogue box, when you're asked, ...Would
you like to replace the existing file...?, click on the Yes to All
button.
