Help with Downloading

Power Settings for Downloading Large Files

You can start a large download and walk away from your computer; however, if you do, it's important to first make sure that your computer's power schemes are set to Downloading/Copying Large Files or some other setting in which your computer won't go into sleep/suspend mode and stop the download. (If you're going to be using the mouse or keyboard every few minutes you don't have to adjust your power settings.)

With Windows XP (and some earlier operating systems), you can adjust your power settings by taking the following steps:

  1. Click on Start;
  2. Click on Control Panel;
  3. Click on Power Options;
  4. Click on the Power Schemes tab;
  5. In the drop-down menu under Power Schemes, select Downloading/Copying Large Files or some setting that will allow plenty of time for the download.
