Preventing Malware Infection

SpywareBlaster

SpywareBlaster is a good free utility that prevents many known malware from being installed on your computer. It does this without having to run in the background. All you have to do is keep it set to Enable All Protection and, if you want optimal protection, check for updates once a week.

How SpywareBlaster Works

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and remove spyware. It prevents lots of malware from ever being installed. It will also stop malware from communicating with its host server. This helps to stop bad pop-ups and to prevent malware from functioning and further spreading the infection.

It doesn't run in the background, so it uses no resources. Instead, SpywareBlaster works by setting kill bits in the registry for known spyware and tracking cookies.

The only time SpywareBlaster needs to be running is when you're checking for updates or if you want to change its setup preferences.

An update is available about every couple weeks, so it's recommended that you check for updates every week or two.    Back to menu

How to Use SpywareBlaster

Since SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and remove spyware but, instead, prevents lots of malware from ever being installed, all you have to do is check for updates (about every two weeks).

For free, you can't get automatic updates for SpywareBlaster, but it's easy to manually check for updates. An update is available about every couple weeks, so it's recommended that you check for updates every week or two.

The settings below might appear a little different in different versions of SpywareBlaster.

After installing SpyBlaster and about once a week, do the following:

  1. Open SpywareBlaster;

  2. In the left pane, click on Updates;

  3. Click on the Check for Updates button;

  4. After you check for updates, if you get a message that there are a certain number of unprotected items, click on the Enable Protection for All Unprotected Items link.

  5. In the left pane, click on Protection Status;

  6. In the Quick Tasks area, click on Enable all Protection.    Back to menu
